Elizabeth “Ebbie” Wingo Adamson, 84, of Chattanooga passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Adamson attended Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Adamson; parents, Melmoth and Thelma Wingo; brothers, Terry Wingo, Kent and Doris Wingo; sisters, Pauline and Marvin Bruce, Mary Lou and Elbert Bruce.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Inez and Bill McCardell, of Acworth, Ga., Fay and Buddy McFarland, Paulette and Jim Thurman, Kay and Wayne Hodge; son and wife, Greg and Louise Adamson, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Bill and Clela Wingo, Aron and Betty Jo Wingo, Glover and Pat Wingo; sister-in-law, Billie Jean Wingo; grandchildren, Saundra, Mark, Becky, Nick, Keith, Kevin, Wendy, Michael Paul, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Kayla, Betsy, Savanah, Garett, Tanner, Tyler, Erich, Ashley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the North Chapel with the Rev. Tylan Blansit officiating.
Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Jack Basinger
William A. “Jack” Basinger Jr., 91, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in a local hospital.
Mr. Basinger was born in Huntsville, Ala., and had lived in Chattanooga for the past 33 years. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and also held memberships in the Alhambra Shrine, Scottish Rites and Ooltewah Masonic Lodge 741.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Ed (Kathy) Biggs, Donna Gaydosh and Mark Biggs; two stepgreat-grandsons, Robert and Richard Klein; three great-granddaughters, Arielle and Chelsey Gaydosh and Kaylee Biggs; great-grandson, Kyle Biggs; niece, Bettye Smith.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Richard Jones officiating.
Interment will be in Varnell Cemetery.

Billy Bates
Billy J. “Bill” Bates, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was a selfless, gentle, and devoted family man who attended Grace Church of the Nazarene and served in several capacities of ministry. He was currently teaching a Sunday School class. His hobbies included fishing and coaching his daughter and son in softball and baseball, respectively. He retired from Combustion Engineering, TVA and Alstom Power. He served with the Alabama National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Della Bates.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Bates, of Chattanooga; daughter, Robin (Gary) Priest, of Signal Mountain; son, Benjamin Bates, of Knoxville (fiancée, Maggie Rockwell); brother, J.W. (Deane) Bates, of LaFayette, Ga.; sister, Merlene (Marvin) Harris, of Henegar, Ala.; grandchildren, Thomas and Meg Priest; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Grace Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Matt Hastings, Cecil Wells Jr. and Minister Greg Nance officiating.
Interment will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Adrian Boyer
Adrian V. Boyer, 96, of Collegedale, passed away at his home Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, with his loving wife and son by his side.
Mr. Boyer was a salesman for 30 years with Miles Laboratory. He will be remembered for his volunteer service with the Samaritan Center from 1979-2003. He was a member of McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church where he taught Sabbath Class for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bette Jane Boyer; caregiver son, Keith and wife, Crystal Boyer; Collegedale; daughter, Sheryl and husband, Ron Marchant, New Hampshire; son, Adrian V. Boyer Jr., California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today at McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5440 McDonald, TN 37315.
Private interment will be at Collegedale Cemetery.

Marie Burchfield
Maudie Marie Burchfield, 84, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at her home.
She was a member of the former Central Baptist Woodmore and was retired from Hall, Haynes, Lusk and Foster Law Firm after 42 years as a legal secretary.
Mrs. Burchfield will be remembered as a most patient person who loved her family and friends unconditionally.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Howard Burchfield; and her sister, Doris Durham.
Survivors include her son, Bob Burchfield and his wife, Joy, of East Ridge; six loving grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Trundle; several nieces and nephews.

Helen Martin
Helen Stovall Martin, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
Helen was born in Memphis and had lived in Chattanooga for 66 years. She was an active member of Brainerd United Methodist Church, the Friendship Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women’s and other actives at the church. Helen was an avid golfer, loved to travel and volunteered at Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Hill Martin and a son, Ralph Stovall Martin.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Navel; daughter-in-law and her husband, Karen and David Flitcroft; grandchildren, Candace (Daniel) Shore, Leslie (Mark) Wiens, Meredith (Jay) A’Hern, Jay (Betsy) Navel, Lori (John) Mathews and Dr. David (Dr. Jamie) Navel; great grandchildren, Sarah and Davis Shore, Katrina and Kirsten Wiens, Michael and Emily Navel and Cami Mathews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the East Chapel.

Hazel McKeehan
Hazel Harris McKeehan, 79, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009.
Hazel was born in DeKalb County, Ala., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. She retired from DuPont with over 35 years of service and after retirement worked for Marks and Morgan Jewelers for 15 years. She attended The Crossing formerly East Ridge Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buford and Jenny Bell Drain Harris.
Hazel is survived by her husband of 57 years, Amos “Mac” McKeehan; son, Mark McKeehan and wife, Angie; three granddaughters, Kamryn McKeehan, Jillian and Sophie Roberts; sister and brother-in-law, Jewell and Clifford Kilgore; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at The Crossing.

William D. McMahon, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.

Daryl Norris
Daryl Elizabeth Patterson Norris, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, following a brief illness.
She was raised in Chattanooga with her four siblings and attended Central High School. In July 1942 she married the great love of her life, Dan A. Norris, a navigator in the US Air Force. Over the next 20 years they moved frequently, and after his retirement from the military in 1962 they returned to civilian life in Chattanooga. He passed away in late October 1999 after 57 years of marriage — almost 10 years to the day before they were reunited in Heaven.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her warmth and her ever-present smile. She was a devoted Christian and was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Woodmore before joining Brainerd Baptist Church twenty years ago where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dan A. Norris; her parents, W. L. Patterson Sr. and Hattie Mae Hall Patterson; and her sister, Geneva Patterson Stonecipher.
She is survived by her two loving children, Donna Norris Haddock (Lynn), of Chattanooga and Dan A. Norris II, of Atlanta; her brothers, Leon Patterson (Evelyn), of Nashville and W. L. Patterson Jr. (Maxine), of Huntsville; her sister, Lily Irene Patterson, of Chattanooga; her three beloved grandchildren, Jody Haddock, M.D. and Jennifer Haddock, both of Chattanooga and Dan A. Norris III. of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews; and very dear friends, Cullen and Carolyn Davis and Vivian Cash.
Daryl was recently blessed with many loving caregivers, and her family would like to offer special thanks to the outstanding teams at Morning Pointe Assisted Living at Greenbriar Cove, the Skilled Nursing Unit at NHC of Chattanooga, and Hospice of Chattanooga.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Steve McCary officiating.

Jean Pollard
Jean Lee Watkins Pollard, 70, of Ooltewah, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.
She spent her early life in Sullivan County, Tenn., residing in Florida for a number of years. She had lived in Ooltewah for a number of years.
Jean was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tenn., received a BS from East Tennessee State University and received her MS at Vanderbilt. She had taught foreign language.
Survivors are her mother, Marguerite Watkins Edmunds, of Ooltewah and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Ooltewah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amy Nutt officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Carl Poston Sr.
Carl Poston Sr., 82, of Knoxville, formerly of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, while pheasant hunting in Watertown, S.D.
He served during the closing days of WWII and the occupation of Germany in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a P51 Mustang and a P80 Jet Fighter Crew Chief. This all Jet Unit was the first of its kind in Europe. His commander was one of only 21 aces in the war. He retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Poston was of the Methodist faith. He was the founder and former owner of Montlake Public Shooting Center, a 50 year member of Soddy Masonic Lodge 418 F&AM, a member of the Alhambra Shrine, a life member of the National Skeet Shooting Association, member of the YMCA-Knoxville, an avid UT sports fan and outdoorsman, an inductee of the TN Sports Hall of Fame, Armed Forces Sports Hall of Fame, and Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame. He won numerous world and state shooting titles and attended 40 world skeet tournaments. He taught gun safety to thousands of area school children, many of whom have taken up the sport of skeet shooting of which several were named to All-American teams. His last student was Tennessee Football Coach Phillip Fulmer.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Poston (Stan) Hazelwood, of Tyler, Texas; and brother, Fred Poston, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Kleinhenz Poston, of Knoxville; son, Carl N. (Nadine) Poston Jr., of Chattanooga; daughter, Linda Poston (Brett) Jaffrey, of Knoxville; aunt, Dorothy Freeman, of Cookeville, Tenn.; brothers, Edward (Billie) Poston, and Kenneth (Debbie) Poston, all of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Ruth Brasfield, of Aberdeen, Miss., Fran (Charlie) Hurt and Sue (Robert) Sexton, of Greenville, Texas; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; granddaughter, Kellie Jaffrey (Mac) Purdy; stepgrandchildren, Al Gutman, Joelle Cheatham, April Purcell and Kevin Hazelwood; great-grandchildren, Scarritt, Mackinlay and Baden Purdy.

Robert Snyder
Robert Lee Snyder, 83, of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
A resident of Chattanooga since 1965, Mr. Snyder was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad after 43 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.
Mr. Snyder was a faithful member of Oakwood Baptist Church where he had served as a choir member, greeter and a member of the Adult 5 Sunday school class.
He will be remember as a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Bertie C. Snyder; sons, Wayne (Doreen) Snyder, Port St. Lucie, Fla., Larry (Teresa) Snyder, Ooltewah and Ken (Karen) Snyder, Chattanooga; brother, Oliver D. (Mary) Snyder, Spencer, N.C.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther Fay Werndli, 80, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
Fay was a native of Chattanooga and was a member of Tyner Church of Christ. She had a special love for traveling and a great appreciation for our National parks and National Wonders around the country. Fay was an active member of the Tri-State Loafers Camping Club.
She was a loving wife and mother and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Herman Werndli; daughters, Karen Gregory and her husband, Don, of Manchester, Tenn., and Denise Jones and her husband, Roger, of East Ridge; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Jake Williams
James Clyde “Jake” Williams, 81, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, in a local hospital.
He was born June 28, 1928 in Spiro, Okla. In 1935 his family moved back to the Flintstone, Georgia community where his great-grandparents settled in the early 1800s. Jake was educated in the public schools of Rossville and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. Following his service to his country, he graduated from Edmonson School of Business and retired from DuPont following 38 years of service. Jake was a member of East Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class and he was a lifetime member of the Allemande Hall where he loved western square dancing. As a great lover of golf, Jake taught golf lessons for many years in the Walker County School’s “Super Saturday,” and he was a volunteer with Memorial’s Auxiliary for over twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jackson Williams and Helen Marie Wallace Williams; and his only sister, Florence Anna Hoskins; and brother-in-law, Ray L. Hoskins.
Survivors include his wife of 591⁄2 years, Joyce Hoskins Williams; niece, Anna Marie Hoskins Chambers Horne (Tim); great-nieces, Jennifer (Tommy) Duffy and Amy Renee Chambers, who brought lots of love to Jake’s life; great-nephew, Mark (Tami) Chambers; great-great-nieces and nephews, Savannah Rose, Sienna Reese Chambers and Connor Duffy; other nieces and nephews that he loved very much are Cathy and Steve Lawson, Linda Joy and O’Henry Porter and Hal Wilson Jr.; very dear lifelong friends, J.W. and Virginia Dodd and their families.

JASPER — Howard E. Barnette, 86, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.
Howard was the son of the late Robert and Myrtle Long Barnette.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Ruby Branson Barnette; and his sister, Anna Love Willis.
He is survived by one brother, DeArnold (Shirley) Barnette, of Chattanooga; nieces, Charlotte (Dallas) Durham, of Jasper, Tenn., Vera (Greg) Long, of South Pittsburg, Cheryl (Adam) Quirk, of Frederick, Md., DeAnn Barnette, of Chattanooga; and one nephew, Robert (Leslie) Barnette, of Chattanooga.
Mr. Barnette attended Marion County schools and graduated from Marion County High School in 1942 and attended the University of Tennessee. He also served in the military for three years. He was employed by Stokley Van Camp for 13 years and traveled for 30 years as a factory representative for consumer products manufacturing.

ROSSVILLE — Sara Ruth Bettis-Dixon, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, in a local hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of North Georgia, daughter of the late Rev. Luther V. Bettis and the late Aileen Bettis Waters.
Mrs. Bettis-Dixon was previously employed by Central Baptist Church as secretary to Dr. Fred Guilbert, Minister of Music. She was also pianist in several area churches including Brainerd Hills Baptist for 16 years, Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga for 10 years, and at her death was pianist at East Ridge Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester R. Dixon; and brother, R.L. Bettis.
She was the mother of Andra (Mike) Maples, Augusta, Ga., R. Brent (Stacy) Lyons, Charlotte, N.C., and Robert (Cara) Lyons, Chattanooga; sister of Doris (Norman) Crabtree, Henegar, Ala., Jimmy R. (Betty) Bettis, Chattanooga and Donna K. (Jim) Seales, Muscle Shoals, Ala.; step-siblings, Gary (Robbie) Waters, Jerry Waters, Patricia (Charlie) Rucker and Judy Sanders; aunt of Erica Knight-Muck, Jonathan D. Knight, Pam Price Mason and Kerry D. Price; Nana of Tyler and Keith Maples, Andrew, Merrily and Emma Lyons, Sawyer, Tucker and Talley Lyons; several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Betty graduated Central High School in 1945 at the age of 16 and entered nurses training at Erlanger Hospital. She was a registered nurse at the office of Dr. Cecil Newell before her retirement. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Summerville Chapter 434.
Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elmer H.
