Faith briefs

Weaver new pastor at Rock Spring

* The Rev. Kevin Weaver, a 1991 graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School, has been called as pastor of Rock Spring Baptist, 194 Turnipseed Road, in Rock Spring, Ga.

Prior to coming to the church, he was assistant pastor of Sequoyah Baptist for four years. He also has pastored Melville Baptist in Soddy-Daisy.

Mr. Weaver also has worked as a union pipe fitter for more than 17 years.

He and his wife, Cathy, have two sons, Caleb, 12, and Seth, 7.

Assistance

* Red Bank Church of Christ, 3600 Dayton Blvd., will host a day of sharing today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. Clothing, household goods and some furniture will be given away. For information, call 875-4816 or 875-2408.

* Chick-fil-A founder and philanthropist Truett Cathy, who built his restaurants on "hard work, humanity and biblical principles," will be the guest speaker at the second annual YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga Prayer Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 11:30 p.m., at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, 1400 Market St. It will be held following the Nov. 8-14 World YMCA Week of Prayer and World Fellowship. * Lee University will present "A Look at Egypt," the second part of its annual Middle East Lecture Series, on Thursday at 7 p.m. in its Rose Lecture Hall. Dr. David Holt, director of the Middle East Studies Center in Cairo, Egypt, with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, will be the moderator. Other speakers include Dr. Caroline Boulis, an Egypt native who is assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Richard Jones, professor of anthropology at Lee and Fulbright scholar to Egypt; and Dr. Edley Moodley, director of the Intercultural Studies Program at Lee. Marriage enrichment

* Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 66 Westbrook Road, in Ringgold, Ga., will host a "FamilyLife Marriage Conference" on Nov. 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Nov. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The focus of the conference is to help train husbands and wives to see God's purpose in each other and to gain biblical insight into what makes marriage a beautiful institution. The guest speaker is Dr. Daniel Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. The cost for Saturday's session, including dinner and literature, is $20 per couple.
