'Discriminating' against whom?

Included in this article:      3 Comments

It should not be controversial when a state requires basic proof of voters' citizenship. By law, non-citizens are not permitted to vote, so we cannot imagine any reasonable argument against insisting that voters take some minimal, easy steps to confirm their citizenship.

Unfortunately, some in the Obama Justice Department do not see it that way. The department again has ordered the state of Georgia not to check voters' driver's licenses, Social Security numbers and the like to ensure that they are U.S. citizens legally entitled to vote. The Justice Department had issued a similar order in May, but Georgia officials sensibly appealed.

"I remain unable to conclude that the State of Georgia has carried its burden of showing that the original voter registration verification program has neither a discriminatory purpose nor a discriminatory effect," Assistant U.S. Attorney General Thomas Perez wrote in a letter to the state.

Well, he's "half-right": The system is "discriminatory" -- but not all discrimination is bad, and discrimination that protects the integrity of the ballot box by guarding it against the harmful, skewing effect of illegal voters is good.

All states ought to take such measures, and they should not be impeded by the Justice Department's apparent view that illegal voting is not a serious problem.

Power, when fallen human beings get it, we abuse it. But it seems only some are abusing even when they are following sensible practices. Who really benefits when illegal voting takes place? My guess is the party who promises more and more to illegals. Oh yeah, I believe that is the Democratic party. The government has been allowed too much control for too long. None of us should be surprised as it becomes more intrusive into people's personal lives.
We also should not be surprised at the direction our current federal government is going both the executive and legislative branches. Remember election time will roll around again. IF we want more of the current direction, just re-elect the ones who are now in charge. They know where they want us to go.

So true. Why should we be surprised when Perez's Master from whom he receives marching orders is Atty Gen. Eric Holder. THE Holder, who ignored and circumvented US laws many times under Clinton's administration. It's pretty obvious what's happening when ACORN and examples of voter fraud leading to the election of Al Franken and others around the country are under investigation. Gee, let's predict where that will go.

It seems the hiatus between Clinton's and Bush's reign is over and the gap has closed. Every day now, there are new corruption issues and scandals in this administration. Impeachment is looking better and better for this Despot-in-power.

Can we afford to allow these clowns to say in office any longer than it takes to get them out?
